Chisel Arts was established in Kolkata, India in 1985 with designer Amitabh Bachhawat and few of highly skilled craftsmen who could shape wood like putty in their hands. A Little Shop was set up in a garage of his ancestral house, where the designer would experiment with shapes, motifs, joinery and various wood finishes. Production of timeless designs were carried out with great care and with an eye towards European styles, that have been the basis of furniture manufacturing through out history and that remains a source of inspiration today.Chisel Arts has a well established factory backed by a team of highly skilled craftsmen. Our furniture is entirely hand made from rare tropical hardwoods. Reclaimed teak and ecologically harvested west Indian mahogany and hand finished where the finishes are mixed and applied by hand to give each piece its own unique character, quality and the feel of the period from which the design drawn inspiration. Also, the use of natural organic ingredients in finish such as shellac and oil give a natural look gains a lovely sheen or patina as it ages.Apart from furniture manufacturing, Chisel Arts is also involved in Interior Designing and execution of projects. Backed by the experience of designer Amitabh Bachhawat and our designing team. Chisel Arts has designed and executed some remarkable projects both commercial and residential. We have a well equipped team of craftsmen and supervisors to take up any interior projects. We have an inhouse designing studio with computer aided CAD designing facility.
